Ms. Ashma Aryal shared her experiences on her journey to become the Asian Girls Human Rights Award winner in Devchuli Municipality, Nawalparasi. The event was held on 23rd October 2018 in collaboration with Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN), Asian Girls Campaign and //KANALLAN. There was a participation of from government and non-government organizations, media persons and young adolescent girls.
The Garden of Hope Foundation under the banner of the Asian Girls Campaign organized the Asian Girls Award 2018 from October 8, 2018 to October 13, 2018 at Taipai, Taiwan. Ms. Ashma Aryal had been one among the four candidates selected, out of multiple applications across Asia, as an Asian Girls Ambassador 2018 and also as a nominee for the Asian Girls Award 2018; based on the recommendation of Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN). The other candidates were Ms. Myanganbayar Enkhtur from Mongolia, Ms. Dinh Thi Dung from Vietnam and Ms. Anais Szu-Yin Fang from Taiwan.
Ms. Aryal engaged the audience for an hour, sharing her experiences of the event to help motivate the young minds present. She gave a brief introduction of the other participants and also shared their views as well. She also explained the difference between Taiwan and Nepal in terms of crimes reported was that the main issue faced by girls in Taiwan is due to domestic violence, whereas cases such as rape and harassment are observed more in Nepal. She then explained how the Garden of Hope Foundation has given such girls, who have faced the harassment, to unite and help prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. She also talked about how the Girls Empowerment project initiated by JCYCN with support from //KANALLAN has helped to promote girls in the community. An interaction session was also held between Ms. Aryal and various adolescent girls present.
Impressed by the initiation shown by Ms. Aryal in sharing her experiences with the audience present the President of Devchuli Youth and Sports Committee, Mr. Bhimlal Tiwari congratulated Ashma for her achievement and also thanked expressed his thanks to her and JCYCN for providing the girls with such an opportunity. He said that such an opportunity would allow the girls to realize that they too can achieve their dreams. Mr. Homnath Jaise (JCYCN Patron), Mr. Biswas Lamichhane (JCYCN Board Member) and Mr. Dhruva Adhikari (Government Official) also wished congratulations to Ms. Aryal for winning the prestigious award and thanked JCYCN for taking such an initiative and providing Ms. Aryal with the oppurtunity. They were very impressed by the achievements Ms. Aryal had received and were hopeful that the event would help influence other young girls as well.
Since then Ms. Aryal has had the opportunity to share her story with various members of child club networks and inspire them to aim for their own dreams. JCYCN has continued to support her in organizing such sharing events where she can inspire the youth. Similar sharing programs were organized on 1st -2nd Nov, 2018.
