To mark the 108 th International Women’s Day and Nepal Social Forum 2018, an interaction program on
“Child Friendly Local Governance & Girls Empowerment” was organized on March 9, 2018 in
collaboration with Jagriti Child and Youth Concern nepal, Asian Girl Campaign, Indigo Children’s Fund, N-CFLG Forum, //KANALLAN, Girls Kick and Child Pati.


Mr. Suvraj Pokharel became the chairperson of the program. The guest speakers of the program were

Dr. Padam Bahadur Thapa, Rabiraj Basaula, and Niraj Neupane. The interaction program was moderated
by Mr. Tilotam Paudel, Coordinator of N-CFLG Forum. There were nearly 80 participants in the program
belonging from different academic institutions and representatives of various organizations.
Our speakers shared their views, ideas and updated information on child friendly local governance and
women empowerment. In the program, there were discussion on the things which are necessary for
child friendly local governance. They are Policies, Implementation and Construction of buildings and
materials which are vital for creating child friendly environment.
One of our guest speaker named Suvaraj Pokhrel (Child Right Activist) talked about the children rights
and how to create child friendly environment via local governance and he shared the fundamental rights
and responsibilities of children.
Our another guest speaker named Rabiraj Basaula (Child Pati Director) also introduce the role of local
government in making child friendly infrastructure. He shared that according to the Convention on Child
Right, there are altogether 54 articles. Among these 54 articles, up to 40 articles are included as Child
Niraj Neupane (Chairperson of Girls Kick) introduce the self defense practice and it’s emerging need for
girls empowerment especially young girls. He shared that Self Defense Practice (SDP) makes one capable
to defense own-self against the harassment and violence issues which one has to face every day while
walking alone, pubic vehicle or public places. It also helps to make someone capable to defense
physically, mentally and socially.
The program went effective with the active participation of youths in the interaction on the situation of
children of Nepal, Child rights, child friendly local governance, and girls empowerment. Also, we have
collected constructive feedbacks from the participants on creating child friendly environment.
