On 16th December 2018, a program on the handover of new building of Jugal CDC was organized by Jugal CDC Management Committee. The chief guest of the program was Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Mr. Dambar Bahadur Aryal. The special guests included Mr. Quintin Clover from Indigo Children’s Fund, Mr. Krishna Subedi from Child Nepal and Mr. Tilottam Paudel from JCYCN. Other guests included Mr. Ratna Upreti and Mr. Mohan Dangal from Child Nepal, Ms. Sera from KANALLAN and Ms. Shraddha Verma from JCYCN. There was a huge participation of over 200 people including stakeholders, children, SMC, PTA, elected representatives, parents and community people.

The new 4 room building, consisting of 2 meeting rooms with attached bathrooms, was constructed by Child Nepal and Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal with the support of Indigo Children’s Fund after the Jugal CDC building collapsed in the 2015 earthquake. A temporary learning center was established with the support from Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN) in 2015. The reconstruction of Jugal CDC started and was accomplished in 2018. For the construction, Jugal CDC Construction and Management Committee was formed that took the overall responsibility of building construction.
After the guests were welcomed with garlands by the local people, the head teacher of Jugal CDC addressed the guests and thanked Indigo Children’s Fund, JCYCN and Child Nepal for reconstructing the building. A welcome song was also presented by the students of Shree Balsudhar Secondary School before the Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Mr. Dambar Bahadur Aryal, Representative of Indigo Children’s Fund Mr. Quintin Clover and Chairperson of Child Nepal Mr. Krishna Subedi jointly unveiled the building handover plaque of Jugal CDC.
Former Chairperson of Jugal CDC Mr. Ganesh Tamang shared his happiness after seeing the child friendly building for Jugal CDC while Mr. Ratna Upreti secretary of Child Nepal appreciated the contribution and participation of the community during the reconstruction. This was followed by the formal handover of the Jugal CDC by chairperson of Child Nepal Mr. Krishna Subedi and representative of Indigo Children’s Fund Mr. Quintin Clover to the Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Mr. Dambar Bahadur Aryal who further handed they key to ward chairperson and further to head-teacher of the Jugal CDC.
Later the Jugal CDC Management Committee chairperson Mr. Indra Shrestha handed certificate of appreciation to Mr. Tilottam Paudel, chairperson of JCYCN, Mr. Krishna Subedi, chairperson of Child Nepal, Mr. Quintin Clover, Indigo Children’s Fund and Mr. Deepak Prasad Basyal. Mr. Paudel spoke in the program highlighting the essence of ECD to early age children. He requested the community to take care of the children and building and make it a model building in days to come.
Mr. Subedi shared his gratefulness to all the stakeholders engaged in reconstructing the beautiful building. He thanked Melamchi Municipality for receiving the ownership of Jugal CDC. And Mr. Clover shared his happiness to see such a wonderful child friendly building and thanked everyone involved in the work. Speaking in the program Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Mr. Aryal highlighted the essence of early childhood learning and care and thanked JCYCN, Child Nepal and Indigo Children’s Fund for the collaboration in reconstructing the building of Jugal CDC.
The program concluded with the thanking note and remarks of ward chairperson Mr. Gyanendra Shrestha who shared the background and history of Jugal CDC in Duwachaur. He shared contributions made by the Jugal CDC in early child learning and he hoped for a better learning environment in the community for early aged children after the reconstruction of new building.
