Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN) has been providing technical support for the implementation of the project entitled ” Technical support to Local government’s planning process in mainstreaming children’s agenda and DRM” with the support of UNICEF, Nepal in 24 convergent Municipalities and Rural Municipalities of Province no. 2 . The project was implemented from May, 2018 and will run till October, 2018.
The major aim of the project is to capacitate the local youths and the elected representatives of the local government on local planning process and Disaster Risk Reduction and assist them to shape the planning in an effective way, and mainstream the burning issues of the country in the planning process.

                                        Orientation on Planning Process

Under the project, various capacity building, coordination and documentation have been scheduled. The first activity of the project “Palika level planning orientation” was conducted with the major objective of giving information to the newly elected political representatives in arranging local planning process steps and procedures and creating expertise on key arranging instruments including appraisal and examination of issues, design prioritization and to clarify the parts and obligations of neighborhood level delegates.

From this activity; 564 newly elected political representatives and municipality personnel were capacitated in the local planning process. Also Plan of Action was successfully prepared for the execution of the planning process for 2075/76. In addition, political representatives prepared the list of the existing problems and came out with possible solutions, which is expected to be portrayed in the annual plan of the local governance.

                                               Training for Local facilitators

The second activity conduced under the project is “Two days planning training for local facilitator at provincial level (Bardibas)”. The objective of the program was to provide knowledge in planning steps and processes, develop skill on key planning tools including assessment and analysis of problems, plan prioritization and to clarify the roles and responsibilities of local level representatives. 38 youths from 24 palikas were capacitated on why to invest in children, periodic planning, and annual planning based on new guideline, planning prioritization steps, resources mobilization, and critical planning process.

                                          Training for Local facilitators

The team also provided support in Ward level planning process. Two facilitators in each Palika were mobilized to support the local Government in “baal bhela” and “mahila bhela” to successfully complete the local planning process.
